Mula Hotel Narlı Building
Istanbul, TR
The Narlı Hotel’s Transformation in Sultanahmet nestled within the historically rich Sultanahmet neighborhood of Istanbul, the former Narlı Hotel, a cherished local landmark, has been thoughtfully reimagined. Through an intricate process of adaptive reuse, the structure has been given a new lease on life as an exclusive 11-room boutique hotel, complete with the ADD Restaurant and a state-of-the-art kitchen, presenting a fresh yet reverent addition to the historic peninsula.
The design prioritizes a diversity of experience, offering six distinct room types to maximize functionality and cater to varied guest preferences. A standout feature of each guest room is the integration of a private Turkish hammam within the en-suite bathroom, providing a unique and culturally immersive wellness experience. Furthermore, every room extends outwards with generous balconies, affording serene and captivating views over the Sea of Marmara, a constant and calming presence.
A carefully curated palette of tones and textures permeates the interior spaces, creating a dialogue between the building’s storied past and a refined contemporary aesthetic. The material selection is deliberately restrained, aiming to evoke the layered history of Istanbul while offering a modern interpretation of luxury that is deeply rooted in the unique atmosphere of its historic setting. The resulting design is a quiet and sophisticated retreat that honors its context and provides a tranquil sanctuary in the heart of the bustling city.
This architectural endeavor was centered on a deep respect for the original structure and its significant location. The transformation from a beloved restaurant to a boutique hotel was approached with a focus on preserving the soul of the building while introducing a new layer of purpose. The project seeks to offer guests an intimate connection to the heritage of Sultanahmet, not through overt historical replication, but through a sensitively crafted environment that speaks of both its legacy and its future.
